FOREST AKAMAI WINTER CAMP 2024
The Storybook Theatre of Hawaii is proud to offer our Forest Akamai Art Camp to a limited number of students ages 7-12 yrs. Trail guide and campfire host Mark Jeffers will lead family members into the forest and introduce the plants and creatures who live there. Participants will be working on art projects using a variety of different media. Story Hui Kaua’i Retreat
A Storytelling Circle (Hui) gathering on Kauai for Six Days of Collaboration, Exploration, Performance at the Koke'e Community Arts Camp!

Our Vision: To gather together at most 25 storytellers in a mountain-top retreat for 6 full days of communion, sharing, learning & story talk... & good food!
Kauai Island Field Trips: 3 days combine cultural site-seeing, local talents, historic town walks, & ocean bathing.
KOKE'E STATE PARK: Enjoy the experience in a high elevation Hawaiian forest (3,200 feet) with hikes, site visits, formal & informal talks/ study in woods & nature.

Friday 3/22 - 9am- story session #1, Picnic in Koke’e Meadow, Kalalau Valley cliff viewing & floating clouds, fireplace swap.
Saturday 3/23 - story sessions with local storyteller, down time & hikes. 7pm: Kokeʻe Lodge Show (drinks on you.)
Sunday 3/24 - South Shore field trip: Soto Zen Temple, Lawai Buddhist Shrines, Hanapepe salt ponds & beach, historical Hanapepe walk, Show St. Michael’s, Lihue
Monday 3/25 - 9am story session #4, local storyteller, Koke’e field trips & hikes, evening fireplace Swaps & Kava Ceremony
Tuesday 3/26 - North Shore field trip: Haʻena Tales & Sites, Limahuli Garden, Hanalei,
5-7pm: Anaina Hou Family Show (in Kilauea)
Wednesday 3/27 - ‘What’s Next’ Sessions (what group wants), Closing Kava Session
Thursday 3/28 - Aloha & go (suggest departure time from Camp by NOON)

Storybook Theatre - A Place Where Friends Work Together To Make a Better World!
1. Play Facilitators needed for Friday Art Nights. Come and assist children in their coloring, karaoke, game playing & other activities.
Help us provide a safe & fun place for children and youth on Friday evenings.
2. Storybook Theatre needs historians and archivists. Come and spend time reviewing the many hundreds of photos, articles, posters, video and sound recordings that have built Storybook Theatre for more than 40 years. Future generations will be inspired to be creative and imaginative in their endeavors.
3. Storybook Theatre needs several ‘MacGyver’ type friends who can be on call to assist in the care of our two nearly 100 year old properties. Small jobs to be sure, but very important for our smooth operations.

A Spooky Special Guest!
We have a spooky special guest, Harry Man the Hawaiian Hoary Bat Ope’ Ape. He’s hungry and it’s time to get busy with the echolocation. And that’s about the gist of it. He is fun to watch as he gracefully flys around playing with his food and all the while having a feast of a good time. He will be hosting 2 special shows on one Spooky Friday Art Night. Bring the family for other activities like Keiki Halloween Crafts, Trick-or-Treating & More!

'Harmony 8 Her Baby Melody? Master Fabric Artist Evelyn Roth created this inflatable classroom masterpiece decades ago, It's still the most popular of Storybook's fleet! Evelyn sewed and painted this beautiful Whale and her baby and they are sure to impress your students during their visit. Cap'n Mark will introduce your keiki to the anatomy, behavior and special talents of these Giants who live in our Hawaiian waters.
"Frances' The Tiger Shark! HOME OF THE TROJANS Evelyn Roth created 'Frances' 5 years ago and this 35' inflatable shark has told her story for more than 5,000 Hawaii Keiki. Children learn of the special nature of these marine creatures and the role they play in the Hawaiian marine eco systems. Our 30 minute presentation for one class of preschool or elementary schoolers includes: facts and fun about the animal's anatomy & behaviors in stories, drama, & songs, this friendly environmental message comes via storyteller Cap'n Mark Jeffers.
"Le Dauphin' - Hawaii Bottle Nose Dolphin Evelyn Roth & 'Le Dauphin' a 35' inflatable dolphin that will come right into your classroom! Children will tour around the creature and learn of the special nature (echo location) of these marine mammals and the role they play in the Hawaiian marine eco systems. They will take an imaginary tour around the island, discovering the richness of the ocean world. Angela Brow the “Tia Daa Lady" will be holding a workshops called The ‘Character of Commedia D'arte'. The workshop will focus on Character Development for Actors. On Sunday July 30, 2023 from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm at the Golden Lotus Center in Kapa'a. The workshop is $55 an actor. For more information about the workshop call 808-335-0712.

Rare Kauai Native Bird Cape Making Workshop
Create A Costume Cape For You & Your Child! Well known fabric artist Evelyn Roth will be holding a special one day only, "Rare Kauai Native Bird Cape Making Workshop". The workshops will be help at the Storybook Theatre of Hawali on July 29th from 9am until 4pm. All materials will be provided for you to create your very own cape for yourself and/or your child. The class is $50 per person and tickets are available on Eventbrite. Get your chance to spread your wings as we are invited to the Kukui Grove Center on Sunday July 30th from 11:30am until 1:30pm to perform on the main stage. We will be showing off our new capes in a Parade of rare Kauai birds, Akikiki, Akekeke & Puaiohi. As a bonus Daffy our new inflatable Honeybee bee will be set up for her first show! This storytelling event is for families of school age children. Sacred Tales
This Storytelling event will feature SACRED TALES told by a medley of great storytellers at the Hanapepe Soto Zen Temple, 1-3500 Kaumuali Highway. The event will be held in the Social Hall on the temple grounds and will begin at 11:00 am on Sunday, March 26th. There will be a potluck luncheon to follow the presentation to meet the storytellers.The event is free & donations to the Temple will be accepted. Mountain Top Tales
The concert presents MOUNTAIN TOP TALES at the Koke'e Lodge and is Presented by Storybook Theatre of Hawai'i. The evening starts beginning at 6:00 pm with dinner from the awesome Koke'e Lodge Menu with Open Full Bar, followed by an hour + of tales. Storytelling Program will begin after dinner at 6:45pm.
